This project consolidates the results already obtained by previous EU-funded interventions in the island of Maio to preserve and promote the natural and cultural wealth of the island and its people for sustainable and inclusive tourism that can generate employment opportunities and improve conditions. of the island population. This intervention will benefit Maio Island families and local associations, farmers and ranchers, fishermen and local producers, with a special focus on young people; as well as the tourists and visitors of this island.

The EU in Cape Verde also supports other projects in the area of promoting cultural and sustainable tourism in Islands such as Fogo, Brava, Sao Vicente, Santo Antão and Santiago, also involving strategic partnerships with civil society and local authorities. In this way, the EU continues to stand by Cape Verde, recognizing the value of tourism, namely sustainable and solidary tourism, as the engine of the country's economy and development.

The EU Ambassador's mission to the island of Maio also provides an opportunity to learn about the implementation of the National Drought Emergency Mitigation Program, to which the EU contributed approximately 772 million Cape Verdean escudos in December 2017
