Bearing in mind that the island of Maio also usually receives tourists who mainly visit the sea beaches, some measures have been taken by the local authorities regarding the interdiction of the beaches and cancellation of events that require crowds of people, among others.
According to our source on the island, people have collaborated with the authorities and there is already a certain social change.
“People are walking normally on the streets, but in terms of getting closer, there is a certain distance, changes in hygiene habits, among other warnings,” says Professor Maria Boaventura, who believes that the Mayan population is increasingly aware of the situation of the country and the world.
At the moment the only problem on the island, which is also at the national level, is the shortage of alcohol and alcohol-gel in pharmacies.
“The stores of products mainly of the first necessities have been supplying with more frequency but we still cannot call hoarding as in the other islands. People are taking precautions but without exaggeration, so the only shortage is alcohol and alcohol-gel in pharmacies ”, says our source.
