Cape Verde to Install Maio Desalination Plant
The government intends to install the island of Maio with a desalination unit, within the scope of a plan to mitigate the bad agricultural to be financed, in about 10 ME, from the European Union.
The information was today released by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luís Filipe Tavares, who spoke to journalists after following the visit of a ministerial delegation of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to the President of the Republic, Jorge Carlos Fonseca.
According to him, the country needs water for agriculture and, therefore, the government will work so that this year it can have more water both in Maio.
Summarizing the meeting of the delegation of that EU with the President, Luís Filipe Tavares said that one of the subjects that was discussed was Jorge Carlos Fonseca's next visit to Luxembourg, at the end of March.
As he explained, this will be an “important visit”, which will consolidate the relations between Cape Verde and Luxembourg.
As for the areas to be covered, the head of Cape Verdean diplomacy stressed that the Environment and Renewable Energies will have “a very strong component”.
"Everything that is renewable energy, everything that is increasing the country's resilience capacity, fighting against climate change, the next PIC will have an energy and climate component, a very strong environment", he reinforced.
For his part, the Luxembourg Minister for Cooperation and Humanitarian Action, Frantz Fayot, expressed his country's satisfaction in helping Cape Verde to train young people for future professions, such as hotels and renewable energies.
Looking at the four-day visit to the archipelago, which ends today, the European official stated that his delegation was received everywhere “with great affection and great friendship”, which, in his point of view, mirrors the “profound friendship” between the two nations, which, as I said, dates back to the late 1980s.
