The Government approved this Thursday, October 8, at the Council of Ministers, a Resolution that authorizes, with effect from zero hours on October 12, 2020, the reopening of commercial air and maritime passenger traffic, destined for and from Cape Verde, announced on Friday, October 9, the Minister of Tourism and Transport.
A decision, underlines Carlos Santos, as spokesman for the Council of Ministers, taken at a time when the country is strengthening Covid-19’s means of screening, in the main islands of the country and Covid’s treatment centers – 19 , with international certification, are already installed in the islands of Sal and Boa Vista.
Carlos Santos, who was speaking to the press, from São Vicente, to make known the main Diplomas approved by the Government in this last session of the Council of Ministers, stated that “after about six months after the decision to interdict air connections with signaled countries with Covid-19, a period during which legislative, sanitary and administrative measures were implemented to prevent this pandemic, the time has come to decide on these new steps to take ”.
For the Minister, the tourism sector, responsible for about 25% of the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) and guarantees a considerable number of jobs and the essential air transport so that visitors can reach the countries and in view of the harmful effects of the suspension of flights in the country’s economy, the Government decided that “it is the moment to reestablish full air connection with the outside, obeying the requirements approved and revised by the competent authorities, namely the mandatory presentation of the negative result of the PCR test before boarding passenger to Cape Verde. ”
In addition, he stressed, the Government analyzed all legislation regarding compliance with health security rules and protocols, across the board, in order to protect the health of Cape Verdeans and create the conditions to rebuild the country’s economic activities.
