Maio President-elect “satisfaction” with classification of island as a World Biosphere Reserve

The elected mayor of the Municipality of Maio, Miguel Rosa, today expressed “satisfaction” with the classification of the island as a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, which he classified as “excellent news” for Maio.

“It is with immense satisfaction that today we received the decision by Unesco to classify our beloved Ilha do Maio, as a World Biosphere Reserve, a decision that we are very proud of, as the island will win in several areas,” wrote Miguel Rosa on social networks .

Following this distinction, he took the opportunity to congratulate the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, and the Ministers of Environment and Culture, Gilberto Silva and Abraão Vicente, respectively, for the “excellent conduct of this dossier”.

“We are facing yet another great achievement for Maio and Cape Verde”, stressed Miguel Rosa, adding that this achievement represents “a great gain” for the island of Maio, especially from the point of view of conservation and protection of biodiversity, valorisation and dynamization the natural, cultural and historical heritage on the island.

According to him, this distinction will contribute to the economic, social development and promotion of the island of Maio, on the path to an international tourist destination.

“It is excellent news that arrives precisely at the beginning of a new political cycle for Maio”, he concludes.
