Ilha do Maio 550 million euro Tourism Investment Project.

The island of Maio is preparing to receive Spanish investments called Little Africa in the order of 550 million euros, with the beginning of the works foreseen for January 2021, and will last for three years. The project estimates to create more than 10,000 jobs on the island in the long term, and will be a “unique project” that focuses on the environment and ecotourism in Cape Verde. Another asset for the island of Maio will be the construction of a new airport, with facilities for international flights, which promoters guarantee to be working together with ASA-Aeroportos e Segurança Aérea, in order to make a solution feasible.

The public presentation of this project took place in the presence of the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, on his visit to the island of Maio, and the mayor of Maio, Miguel Rosa. Both praised the structuring importance of this great project for the Porto Inglês area, in that it covers important sectors such as the economic, social and environmental sector, being in line with the government’s vision for the development of sustainable tourism for Cape Verde and in particular to the island of Maio.
